Coup in Pakistan?

There have been conflicting reports about president’s health and therefore, rumours are rife here in Islamabad. President Zardari is reported to be in Dubai to evade the possible repercussions of Memogate, if the findings on Mansur Ijaz’s allegations against former Pakistani ambassador to the United States (who was asked to resign presumably under pressure of the military) are found true. Mansur Ijaz’s latest statement implicates even Mr. Zardari in the memo Husain Haqqani reportedly passed on to Adm. Mike Mullen, the former Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee via Gen. [R] James Jones, who has admitted that he indeed passed on the said Memo to the  retired Admiral.

Note for WoP readers:

There are conflicting reports about president’s health these days and Islamabad is rumour rife, to the brim.

How far Mr. Mansur Ijaz’s allegations (who is by no means a friend of Pakistan) are true, is yet to be seen. But as they say and very rightly, its not important who is saying, but WHAT he is saying. And what he says IF, and I repeat IF he’s correct, then there should be no second thought that a breach in the president’s oath to the nation has indeed been made and that makes the situation very very serious.

Whatever the case—may be, I think the best course would be to strictly follow the constitution, instead of trying the same old, miserably failed acts like Martial law or similar such set ups, for its also being rumoured that an interim set up comprising of technocrats with the army on their back be installed. BUT we have tried all such extra constitutional gimmicks and all such prescriptions have miserably failed.

From clutches of devils we fell again and again into the deep blue sea. Better not try that already—has been tried. [Nayyar]

Zardari was once indicted for orchestrating the sudden death of Murtaza Bhutto.

In 2009, the US ambassador to Pakistan discussed with Pakistan’s army chief, General Ashfaq Kayani, the possible removal of President Asif Ali Zardari.

On 7 december 2011, we learn that Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, 56, is in the American Hospital in Dubai after becoming ill, with a suspected heart attack.

The American Hospital is where Osama Bin Laden was treated, just before 9/11.

( OSAMA DEATH FAKE)

There are rumours that Zardari will resign.

In November 2011, Zardari’s ambassador to the USA, Husain Haqqani, resigned due to a leaked memo about seeking US help to sack top military figures in Pakistan.

Allegedly, Zardari was behind a plot to weaken the power of certain Pakistani generals, including Kayani.

“Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz made public a secret memo, which he claimed he had drafted and delivered to the US military on the instructions of Husain Haqqani.

“The former envoy has denied these charges.

“The ‘memogate’ scandal took a new turn recently when Ijaz claimed that Haqqani and Zardari had prior knowledge of the US military raid that killed Osama bin Laden on May 2 2011.”

Kayani – man of mystery.

The CIA’s Bruce Riedel says: “I think the bottom line here is that Pakistan is slipping into its fifth military dictatorship.”

(Pakistan officials dispel ‘coup’ rumours as Asif Ali Zardari)

It is too early to say what exactly is going on.

Zardari may swiftly return to continue as president.

Or there may be a coup in progress, orchestrated by either the military or the CIA or both.

General Kayani is a graduate of the General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth in the US.
