Call for state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers

Iftikhar Ahmad

Muslim parents teach their children to respect their teachers. From a very young age, we are taught that Islam teaches us that after our parents, our teachers are most deserving of respect. With this background on image of a teacher in Islamic societies, it must be an extremely confusing time for the Muslim parent in Leytonstone, London. For up to 30 parents may face prosecution for withdrawing their children from school, disobeying the teachers in the school, simply to secure a decent moral upbringing for their children. The school had decided to have a week of lessons about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history.
Part of this was a special adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet retitled Romeo and Julian as well as fairy tales and stories changed to show men falling in love with men. Rather than filling the heads of impressionable boys and girls with fatuous drivel about gay penguins, schools should be ashamed of the fact that they are sending children out into the world barely able to read, write and add up properly. Muslim children are leaving schools without learning their cultural roots and linguistic skills.

The action was being taken against the parents as part of a policy of ‘promoting tolerance’. So why not tolerate parents, who, for sincerely-held reasons, consider their children too young to be taught about gay relationships? This isn’t education, it’s cultural fascism. A record number of pupils persistently played truant in 2006-07, with around 272,950 pupils persistently absent in 2007, missing more than 20% of school. We rarely see councils prosecute the parents of these persistent truants. Yet, the parents who removed their children as a one-off to protect their morality may be prosecuted!
If the local council does decide to go through with a prosecution, it would be in line with the government’s approach to the Muslim community. Muslims who believe homosexuality is a sin would be labelled as extremists. Liberal totalitarianism is a growing phenomenon in Britain and the west in general but many people will be shocked that the school can override a parent’s view of what’s appropriate or inappropriate to teach their children.
This latest episode should be a wake up call for Muslim parents. Muslim parents MUST explain our moral standards to schools and be prepared to take steps to protect our children’s morals and values from a growing agenda to impose liberal values upon them.
This is an eye opening for those Muslim parents who keep on sending their children to state schools to be mis-educated and de-educated by non-Muslim monolingual teachers.

The solution of all the problems facing Muslim children is state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers. Those state schools where Muslim children are in majority may be designated as Muslim community schools. Bilingual Muslim children need state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods.

  1. Iftikhar is a pain in the butt – he regularly spams sites with his drivel then is never seen again to answer replies until the next time he pontificates uselessly and boringly.

‘Bilingual Muslim children need state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods.’ — Why? Neither Germany nor any of the other countries he rails about are Muslim countries. He should get over himself.

  2. Dear Iftikhar Ahmad
Your call for State funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers is a misplaced wish and you argue with wrong agenda.
It is absolutely imperative that children with non-Christian background should have the possibility to learn about their parent’s cultures and religions but it should not be restricted for Muslim children. Public schools should be made more inclusive and inter-cultural. But at the same time, it is the duty of parents to teach their kids, the cultural values, religious traditions and other societal norms necessary for having a good life as well as to be a good citizen.
Sex education does not make Muslim children in to porno addicts but provide them information useful in their future life. This can of course be done in a balanced manner so that it does not cross the boundaries of civilized teaching.
Muslim, Christian or Jewish schools are only needed when the public schools do not teach children what they have to learn to be a good students. Learning of parent’s language for personal use or as a mean of learning can be achieved in the existing system but the teachers do not have to be Muslims or Jewish.
I sincerely believe that all communities must learn together and respect and accept inter-culturalism.

State, independent and faith schools have become exam factories and are only interested in A to C Grades. They do not educate children. The result is that anti-social behaviour, gun and knife culture, racism, drug adiction. binge drinking, high rate of teenage pregnancies and abortions, high divorce rate are common in society.

Bilinguasl Muslim children suffer more than other children. They need state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods. There is no place for a non-Muslim child or a teacher in a Muslim schools.

This is what I was thinking about the other day, one of my friend have younger siblings who have been born here and have been going to state funded schools.

when he tried to tell them about Islam, about Allah swt..it is almost as if they are listenning to some fairy tale – astaghfirullah.

It gets very very difficult to bring up children in an Islamic way if all their teachers and their classmates are non-muslims.
    it is sad indeed.

    Kind regards.

  4. Dear Iftikhar
Thanks for explaining to me the reasons behind your wish to have State funded Muslim schools.
I also understand that many Muslim parents as well as parents form other religious and ethnic minorities do wish a public school with discipline, religious education and no anti-social behavior, gun and knife culture, racism, drug addiction, binge drinking, high rate of teenage pregnancies.
Well this is all worthwhile wishes, but since we choose to live in a society which is built on different set of traditions and coded, it is not fair to blame the society or even try to change it.
I believe that it is not school but parents who must sow seeds of love, attention and good moral behavior in their children. School is a place of learning so that one is able to tackle the needs of the society, we live in.
I know many children from various ethnic communities whose children do not suffer from the ills, you describe. BY the way, Danish or British parents also want good for their kids, so the solution is not Muslim schools but good public schools. That should be your struggle and not to create religious based schools.
    Kind regards

Bilingual Muslim children need state frunded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teahers as role models during their developmenal periods. A Muslim teacher is not a priority at hihger level of studies.

Bilingual Muslim children need to learn and be well versed in English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. At the same tiem, they need to learn and be well vrsed in Arabic, Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry. Without state funded Muslim schools, such goals are un-achieveable. State schools with non-Muslim monolingual teachers are not in a position to educate Muslim children.

A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny gloabl village, He/she does not want to become notoriously monolingual Brit.

  6. Dear Iftikhar
Do not you think that by making the issue of bilingual education or learning of mother tongue, in to a Muslim matter is way out? What about Hindu, Christian or Buddhist children who should learn to speak Urdu, Arabic or Mandarin etc.
What about those Muslim parents who want their children to be monolingual?
    Are they bad parents?
Let us focus on the proper education for our kids and make sure that mother tongue education is available as an added bonus.
You say; ” A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny gloabl village, He/she does not want to become notoriously monolingual Brit”. I hope that you realize that Islam is not a nationality or ethnicity but a religion.A Brit can be a MUslim too.
    Regards

  7. Freedom of expression, freedom of speach and freedom of learning and skill development has been a basic tenets of a free society based on which there should be no restriction on the agencies involved in imparting education. Brits are the product of such system who enabled them to rule over the entire world in the past but now the time has changed. Now their top priority is to save their homeland from Islamic terrorism which is propagated by dangerous bilinguals and accordingly they are implementing their education policy. If one finds that he or she can not adjust to these changes , the door of the country is open for him to leave the country at the earliest.

The western “values” suggest equality and freedom for all, that means society must allow religious freedom. The Christians and Jews have Church/ Jewish schools as well as kosher meat, yet when Muslims simply ask for the very same treatment, the Islamphobic secular right wing jump up and down screaming that somehow western values have been attacked.

The Jews throught out the western world have their own religious courts. Christians have been enjoying the right to be married in Church. Muslims should have the same right to get married in Masajid as well as they need Sharia Courts, dealing in marriage, civil matters and divorce.

It is easy to say” Go back to where you came from”,but do not forget that British Muslims are actually born and educated here. They are in the unenviable position of trying to combine two diffent worlds. That is no easy.

Multiculturalism is not about separation, ghettoisation or balkanisation. It is, instead, a recognition of both diversity and the need for common ground, mutual respect, and cultural engagement.

Muslims all over the world never opposed English as a language what they did was opposition of the Western culture and their system of education. In Pakistan, the medium of instruction is Urdu and English and the official language is both English and Urdu. Pakistan is going to send English teachers to Korea for the teaching of English language.

Muslim parents would like their children to be well versed in standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity.

Majority of Muslim children leave schools with low grades because state schools with monolingual teachers are not capable of teaching English to bilingual children. At the same time, they need to learn and be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry.

I am concerned with the education of the Muslim children. It is nothing to do with integration or segregation. Those state as well as Church schools where Muslim children are in majority, in my opinion, may be designated as Muslim community schools with bilingual Muslim teachers as role models.

Bilingual Muslim children need state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods. There is no place for a non-Muslim child or a teacher in a Muslim school.

  9. Now the time is over when on the name of religious freedom a muslim lady follow her teacher as a role model and starts to wear Burqua beneath which she can easily hide AK470 to supply it in the hands of terrorist. It the time when muslim has to cooperate with the authorities and not to put new demand They should be ready to sacrifiese their personal santiments for greater aim of national security.

  10. It is the proper time to give a direct blow to those who think that their cultural identity can only sustain until and unless it will remain insulated from others.

  11. World community is behind the advancing Pak. army against terrorist. The on going operation should not stop to the present locations but now it has became a compultion to the army and Govt. to continue the trend all over where the nonstate actors exist.Theis sympathisers and financer has to be spoted and police should be given an open order to eleminate them within or out side from the country. Now enough is enough. It is a crucial phase in the life of every Pakistanee to decide to which side he or she belongs.

  12. Now Iran is also putting alligations on Pakistan that its land is breeding terrorits who are entering in the neighboring countries. Pak army is now marching in right direction. Its work will continue till there will be any trace of such elements in any part of the country. The international support is with them. The human right organizations will remain blind to support the on going operation.
